Core Purpose? Do Better.

Core Purpose? Do Better.

Do Better

At HubWise a key part of our business is our One Page Plan.  It’s the one document everyone in the company, from the owners down, can reference to understand the directions, goals, strategy, and the vision for the organization.  It defines who we are, what we do, and most importantly, why we do what we do.

That last part, why, is the driver behind the Core Purpose.  It’s the heart of the company, it goes to answer, “Why does what we do matter”?

Simon Sinek has a TED Talk called Start With Why.  It’s a fantastic discussion about focusing on why you are in business as opposed to focusing on what you do.

When starting HubWise we knew that we want to make a difference, we wanted to help, we wanted to drive success for ourselves and our customers.  We knew we want to Do Better.  It’s a phrase that gets said around the office constantly and is always in the back of our minds.

We want to Do Better for our customers, our employees, our community, and our business.  HubWise is always on the lookout for the next thing that we can improve.  We encourage everyone to take part.   It doesn’t always have to be related to technology.  Painting a wall, cleaning up your desk, or even just rearranging the office are all things that can make things better.  Sometimes, doing better takes a lot of work, sometimes it’s simple.

Do Better is a rallying cry for our company and what we want to accomplish, it encapsulates why we do what we do.  We wake up everyday looking for the things we can improve.  It permeates everything we do, and is the guiding light in how we conduct ourselves and our business.

I’m Scott, I want to help your business “Do Better”

I’m Scott, I want to help your business “Do Better”

When I was growing up, my dad owned and operated several small businesses, including an auto body shop on 84th and L.   I learned the value of hard work there, prepping and detailing cars, and  I also learned about running a small business.    My dad was an early adopter of technology and was using computers to run his business in the early 1980s.  He bought a PC from Michael Dell, personally, and he’d be happy to tell you the story.

I left for college and wound up living and working in New York City for 10 years.  During that time I worked in Information Technology for internet startups, medium sized-businesses, and a large media enterprise.  I also had an unpaid side job helping to keep my dad’s business running.

I moved home and worked in a large, corporate IT shop for several years and learned a lot about best practices.  Although it was a good experience, I never had the feeling that my work was helping to advance the business. And that’s really what it’s about, isn’t it?   So I went back into the world of small business, taking my enterprise expertise to find a way to do better for their technology support.  Kyle and I met and started working together a few years back.

Doing Better

Although we had success in our positions, we felt that we could do better and started HubWise Technology. We knew if we took the approach, values, and attitude that got us here, we could help other businesses “Do Better.”  HubWise is now a block away from my dad’s old body shop on L street, where I first learned about hard work and small business.  It’s an appropriate place for me to continue the hard work and do better for our business partners.

Looking forward to working with you.

Real Estate Company Invests in Document Management

HubWise Technology helps a local real estate company simplify their accounting processes with DocLink.

DocLink, a document management and workflow solution from Altec, helps companies reduce their paper needs and simplifies the process for routing and approving documents.

With over 50 employees responsible for approving invoices, reviewing accounts payable in a timely manner is a challenge.  Using DocLink from Altec, the company will route electronic versions of AP invoices to the right person regardless of where they are.  The employees review, make notes, and approve invoices quickly and easily.

Simplified expense reporting is done with DocLink Mobile and Smart Forms.  Employees create and submit expense reports while attaching pictures of receipts from their smartphones.  Lost and unreadable receipts are eliminated, and expense reports are submitted accurately and on time.

Once approved, the information is integrated into Sage 100c removing the need to double enter information.

HubWise Technology works with companies to increase productivity and save time.  DocLink combines document management and document routing, and integrates directly with the top ERP solutions, like Sage 100c.  Time is saved and productivity is increased while accounting processes are simplified.

Hi, we’re HubWise Technology

Hi, we’re HubWise Technology

Welcome

I’m Kyle, I’ve seen a lot over the last 25 years.

It all started when I got my first PC. I still remember MS-DOS, the first time I ran Windows 3.1, the Windows 95 launch, and everything that has come since. It’s been quite a journey to where I’m at now, but the technology was only one part of experience. I’ve been involved in the business of technology for the same amount of time. PCs and technology wasn’t just a way to play games (although, I did my fair share of that), I was more interested in how technology was changing the way business was done and how it could impact organizations in a huge way.

When I was younger, I watched my father’s business utilize technology to get them a leg up on their competition, reduce costs, and help communicate. I’ve built some small side businesses based on the use of technology to provide those advantages, and I’ve most recently spent the last 5 years of my life building a division of a managed services company that was focused on larger business and projects.

The success that I have seen was based on looking beyond technology being a cost. I want to look at it being an opportunity to grow, to provide a strategic advantage, to give back some of the lost time. It seems more and more that businesses and business owners aren’t looking at it in the same way, and that’s OK with me. It’s my job to help companies and people see what they can do with their technology. I don’t sell technology solutions, I sell Time, Productivity, and Profit.

When my partners and I first started looking at starting a company, one of the first questions we asked was what do we want it to be. My feedback at the time was not to focus on the what, let’s focus on the why. Why do we do what we do, what gets us up in the morning and keeps us going? For me, it’s embodied in our Core Purpose. Do Better. I knew we could do better, better technology, better relationships, better strategy, just better.

Every day, wake up and ask yourself, what can you Do Better? I guarantee there is at least one thing you can improve. It might be in your marriage, it might be at your job, it might be in your business, but Do Better. Find it, improve it, and at the end of the year, you will have done 365 things better. Think of the impact of that. It can be incredibly powerful, not just for your, but the people around you.

I look forward to bringing our Brand Promises, Plan; Communicate; Deliver; Recommend; and our Core Values, Say it, Do it; Fearless Innovation; Do the Little Things; No B.S.; to you over the next 25 years.
